It will work but the risks covered above are real. I used a small gas generator plugged up with a shore power adapter to make morning coffee in between taking the old onan out and installing the new Northern Lights.

With no load? Yes it should be pretty quiet at no load... get it up near 2000 W for a long time and you will be aware of it.
As I have suggested before if for longer running time try to get it on shore. I have also seen them set off in the dinghy.
Common sense when placed on the swim platform should be no problem. i.e. be swinging at anchor so that the bow tends to face into the wind.
CO fears are somewhat exaggerated unless it is brought inboard.... a CO detector in the living space will give you all the comfort you need.

Once you find that your lifestyle afloat changes where you are using it a lot and thinking about moving up to the Honda 3000 then I would put a 3.0Kw Westerbeke, which is pretty small, as a fixed installation.

i know this will work because i have a honda 2000i. i use this camping and when power goes off at the house did this to recharge my batteries last year when anchored out for july 4th. generator needed an impeller and wasnt able to get one before we went out. make up a pigtail for the gen to the shorepower cord on the boat, easy. tied my unit on my swim platform on f32 runs fine back there. co alarms never regeisterd anything. the honda has overload protection that will kick in if you try to overload it.

My brother runs one to power his whole boat, a 24 Glastron express cruiser. Cannot run a/c and microwave at same time but everything else. Puts it on swim platform.
