Hi all,
I want to give you all an update on my efforts to install a 5000 btu window a/c in the opening of the anchor rode storage area. After installing a 6" inspection hatch in the bow over the storage area hoping that would be enough to let the hot exhaust escape, but found it to be inadequate, I did some rethinking.
I came up with installing a 4" bilge exhaust blower in the center, and just below the rim of the hatch, which allows the cover to be returned when not using the blower.
I did this by suspending the blower unit with 3 metal bands spaced equally from the rim mounting hole and by drilling three holes in the blower casing and attaching the blower to each band to hold it in place. I placed it in the center of the round hatch to allow the hot air to be blown out and with the 1" space around the blower, this causes the cooler air to be sucked in, there by circulating the air.
I have been running the a/c now with out any problems, and the cabin gets very cold. I checked ouitside and you can feel hot air being blown up, while I'm standing over it. I placed my hand inside the 1" opening around the blower and you can feel air being sucked in and the warm, not hot air inside.
I beleive I can now call the project a success. I will now complete the wiring, installing an off/on switch etc to complete the project.
After I seal around the a/c housing and put trim around it, it should look very good.
I will take pic's of all of it and post when I can.
Larry
