454 Engine replacement cost.?
I may have developed a rod knock in the starboard engine. I have 1988 Crusader 454 7.4's in there... Any recomendations as for price to replace the block or ??? I'm in NJ. If anyone knows of a reasonably priced shop or whatever let me know. I was thinking about just having the problem fiexd if thats possible rather then replacing the block.

Big blocks in a 32 huh, did you buy her that way or did you install? I order my long blocks from Jasper. I'm in the automotive business, so I get the good price.

I bought a 7.4L long block in 2005(?) for about $4.5k, but I got it at dealer cost from Jerry's Marine. Block with heads and manifolds - I used my own intake, carb, pulleys, oil coolers, etc.

Yes - cheaper to keep her.
The only reason I replaced mine was because the idiot owner (me) let it freeze and crack the block
over the winter during its 2 year deck off restore. So, she got new wiring, all new screws, bolts, hardware, 4 coats of primer & Awlgrip, etc. and then a new engine to boot.

Are you sure it's a Rod knock? One of my customers has the same engine in his 10M, heard a knocking and luckily called me. A rocker arm had snapped when a valve stuck closed. If he would have ran her for another few seconds it would have been catastrophic. I found the problem while doing a compression check. Pulled both heads, took them to a shop ($390 re-work), replaced all rods. My bill was $1,095
Could have been $8k for rebuilt motor.
