aft deck replacement
I am in the middle of replacing the deck on my f36, I like to overbuild anything I do especially when I am going to these measures. I want to add some supports for under the deck and above the fuel tanks/generator. I am trying to find out what would be the best wood for these supports. Also the wood below the gunnel seems to be starting to rot and I was curious as to what others have done to replace this as far as materals go. Thanks in advance, I have to say this has been the most fun I have had working this hard. Can't wait til spring.

White oak is great. Laminating 1x3s together, glued and screwed, is VERY strong. Make sure you prime all six sides.

We'll all be looking forward to seeing the final product at the next get together. Hope you can make it.
I've got some friends who are always nagging me to cruise up to Kent Island some time. Maybe next summer we can raft up.

I used the aluminum to reinforce my sagging engine compartment lids.
Simply bolted them in. No glassing involved.
Lightweight, strong and they won't bend.
Won't rot either.

The deck is completely off now and I can see a few problems with the previous deck installer....They used 1/2 regular plywood with no expoxy then glassed over it(sort of) and then topped it off with linoleum. Tomorrow I'll replace most of 1X3 single supports with dual 1x4 white oak, cut the 3/4 marine plywood to fit and start coating in epoxy. Not sure if I am going to glass over all of it or just use a herculiner/kiwi roll in coating. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow night.
