Sharing some helpful striping information

Post by JGedridge »

Hey all,

The striping on my 36 tricabiin is a joke, so therefore I am going to restripe it.

Many of you know to take a heat gun to it and heat it up and pull it off.

This worked for the upper deck striping but not for the boot stripe

The boot stripe was actually 3 stripes. 3" Bottom, 3/4 mid and 1/4 top.

The heat gun wouldn't work becuase the stripe is so old. And in the past I used a 3M stripe off erase wheel, but Im not going to spend 50 bucks.

Therefore the marina uses a different technique. Take a single sided razor blade in a 2" scraper and take it off slowly. ***There are 2 sides to a single side razor blade!!!*** You have to rest it along the gel-coat and see if it glides without friction. If it does not, flip it over.

I had all the striping off within an hour! ...Just want to make your lives easier guys!

Took most of the ugly stripes off of my Sea Pro 18 last year with that razor blade method. Works great - but be careful so you don't nick the gel coat.

stripe removal

Post by BobCT »

I did the ones on my midcabin last year, the three that run along topside and up the radar arch.

They were cooked so the razor blade method didn't work. I went through two of the 3M wheels. It probably took 4 hours all together.

I also used the 3M Stripe eraser. Grat product. I pulled the three stripes off my arch in about 90 minutes
