Hatch seals

Post by larglo »

Hi all,

Well, I'm just full of questions, comments or someting today, but just thought of something I'd like to ask. The seals, or what ever you call them around the engine hatch and the stern hatch, are both missing. There was parts left at the time I bought the boat, but removed all of it this summer. There were also strips of wood, about 3" long and 1/4" thick or so, screwed in even places around the trench?

I checked with our Beacon and if I new what I was looking at, it ain't cheap getting it there. So, does any know of a material, rubber like strip, or what ever, I could use to replace the old seal, without having to take out a loan?

Thanks much.

Could it be something added on? None of my Trojans had seals on those hatches .

They Just had rubber grommets in the corners
they look like this

Same here. Engine hatch and rear hatches all fit into a grove and were "bumpered" with those grommets. The inside of the groves had drain holes in the event of any water intrusion from above, which would allow small amounts of water into the bilge. Never had that issue.

In addition to the same as these guys describe, my aft hatch also has a couple of blocks of wood in the trough - I think just to help support / stabilize the hatch cover. There was no official 'seal'.

Hi Larry,

Below is a photo of the seal around my engine hatch. It's "D" shaped hollow rubber with a peel & stick backer. I installed it about 8 years ago and it's still in great shape. I purchased it from a local Haulmark trailer distributor.

Hope this helps :)
