She's settled and the mechanic has started work. I met with the machinist yesterday to discuss the rebuild, should have the engine to him sometime next week. I can now sympathize with all you people that have to haul every winter......my boat stays in the water year around so being on the hard is new to me. I'm already having withdrawels not being able to go down to the boat......ask the yard guy if maybe I could come down, go aboard for lunch, some reading and maybe doze of.......they said no....lol
While the boat is out I want to replace the wood supports for my swim plat form.....stainless would probably be best but I'm wondering if aluminum work work?? Any down side to aluminum in fresh water??? Here she is on the hard.....

If you have time, can you post another picture of your back curtain and the extension from the cabin roof? I was thinking of doing something like that. It looks nice and I would do same color.
It will be interesting to follow your rebuild as I will be doing that too sometime in the future.
Post lots of pictures!

Scallywag......here are some additional pics of my canvas. All of the sides zip and snap out or roll up and I have screens that zip in to replace the rear and side isenglass......I personally don't like the screens so don't us them. The top is fairly permanent but plenty of sun gets in from the sides. There is a flap in the top that zips open to allow access to the fly bridge(ladder removed in prep of engine removal)..................John

yes, it looks nice.
I was even thinking of doing canvas over the main cabin from the helm windows to the bow flag- and going over the railings on the side. I was thinking I could keep all the hatches and windows open during a rainstorm and get the breezes, not the rain. Might be a bit dark though...

I have seen a couple of doing similar things for there foredeck... one guy (wood decks, occasional water issues with the decking and windows) had a piece of canvas made to cover from the overhang on the forward windows out to the rubrail, so the entire bow area was covered.
Another guy did similar but ran the cover (very light weight) to the railing instead, to provide shade but still get ventillation. There is another guy at my marina who goes with a full mooring cover (bow to stern, side to side) to protect his early 60's cruiser... of course that one comes off when he comes down to the boat, but he has a lot less washing and bird poop to contend with.

Have to say I've gotten several comments at the boat yard......seems they don't see many "old Trojans in that condition"......yard crew and other boaters like the "classic" lines and the wood......"don't make them like that anymore....nice boat".............makes me kinda happy to have such a cool old boat........but you all know what I'm talking about................John
