53' MY Advice
Moderators: BeaconMarineBob, Moderator, BeaconMarineDon
.... don't think it will come to that. The boat needs a ton of work and that's just what I found on initial inspection without running the engines. I think this boat needs to find a home that has an owner that doesn't work and can live on board and restore her. That's a dream of mine, not reality. Or of course someone that has major $$$$. Not reality for me either.

Retire?NO GIN wrote:Yeah she was big. This is the kind of boat I can enjoy for the next 13 - 15 years with my family then retire on!!
Did you say RETIRE ?
Sounds like that boat would be a FULL TIME JOB !
My concern woiuld be the ongoing maintenance and repair cost and time factor.
Especially considering her age and construction, especially if she is wood.
I probably missed that item, is she wood?

She is a wood superstructure with glass overlay as it was built by the factory. Per another forum member, the same build as the old Tollycrafts. My current situation would actually allow me to devote myself entirely to rebuilding her with a "career" as my side job.
Nothing great, just some extra pocket change. My wife has a wonderful secure job here on LI and makes enough to pay the bills (gotta say, little kick in the balls).
Wasn't the case when I owned and operated my business but this wonderful economy is awesome!!
If I were to go through with this deal it would be a long-term investment for me and certainly provide many challenges and much enjoyment along the way.
..... just sayin

People say that about cars to yet I've made boat loads of money in buyiing/selling exotic cars. Maybe not today, but someday the economy will turn. Remember I'm not talking about a 27' cruiser or even a 36' trawler, it's is a 53' MY. Leaning towards no on the boat but still considering it. I've found a similar Hatteras which I think is a much better made boat (from what I've read and heard).
