'78 Tri Cabin - How do you replace the engines?

Post by Dollarbill63 »

I am flirting with MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE buying a '78 Tri Cabin. I know the engines will have to be redone but in looking at it - how in the heck do you get new engines in there?

Am I missing something???

I'm not sure on a '78 (as they changed from the old style to the new style right around there). I have a '74.

You'd have to pull the back wall out and remove and install through the hole.
A lot of work, for sure.

I guess it depends on what year they changed where the engines were located.
Mine are in the rear, under the beds. In the later models, they were placed under the mid-cabin floor.

I am guessing but I would guess that on a 1978 the rear windows are removed and also the rear door and than that portion remaining is cut away to open the rear end up for engine removal... this would IMHO cause the least amount of glass work and damage to the boat... The outside rear area of the windows would be cut down to the deck and removed and the doorway would be removed in one piece along with the rear window section..... but it only my guess!

BUT I'm not expert....??

My 74' 44ft has a hatch on the top that un-screws that give access through the salon to hoist the motors out.
