I have been spending just about all of my spare time on trying to get her ready. Its been a lot of hard work but worth it. My wife told our neighbor 'hey its keeping him off the streets' What ever that means!

Looks good. I really like the look of newly finished teak.

Yes I did. The old mahogany rails were rotted so I went and bought a 2" thick 8.5" wide by 10' long peice of african mahogany. A friend of mine helped me cut them out. I was going to paint them off white but got to the marina and changed my mind. Did them in Cetol light. That platform was a b*^&h to do. The wood grain was raised so bad I didn't think I would ever get it smooth again. Now I know why you 'cheated' there Wowser52. I appreciate all the nice compliments from everyone. Its been a trying spring with the rain and all.

Great looking. Mine is on the hard now and we're trying to do a lot of swim platform, bottom paint and splash rail work now. Seeing yours is inspiring!

doesn't matter what there pic's of as long as theres pics to look at huh foofer!!    and dodgeem I can't tell you how many hours I have on the outside so far topside hasen't even been touched yet. Check the wood grain on your platform real close, mine was raised so bad that my flat sander wouldn't even cut it. Had to use my belt sander with real course paper to cut it down then the flat sander to finish the wood off. Lot of work but it was worth it IMO. If you do use a belt sander be careful cause it can cut valley's in you deck if your not careful. If you have any questions on it pm me.

When I got done stripping 30 years of (half gone) varnish, the teak was really pitted too. That was one of the reasons I went with Interlux Perfection, instead of Cetol. It is tough as nails, holds a dusting of (non slip) sand , applied while the first coat was wet, and won't need to be redone for many years. My father gets 4-6 years between applications, and he keeps his outside in the Florida sun. I keep mine in covered storage and don't expect to redo mine for 8-10 years.

This was just after I refinished mine but I didn't clean it good enough with acetone to remove all the oil before applying Cetol and after a couple years it started showing where the cetol was not bonded well to the oily wood. Soon it will be time to run it through a drum sander again and do it over.
