Replacing riser and elbows on 1987 Trojan Int 10M FWC 454 (350) Crusaders after noticing an antifreeze drip from gasket on the way to winter storage. It never dripped before. The risers and elbows removed were original and actually looked terrific on the inside (coulda just tightened the nuts down a little I guess).
My question is whether or not to use a small amount of sealant (like Permatex #2 or Permatex Right Stuff or something comparable) on the gaskets. The issue has been debated greatly on other sites, but a search here yielded no mention.
I have found the advice here and knowledge to be very beneficial so I'm asking if any of you use sealant on gaskets when installing the riser and elbows?????
The gaskets are Interface Solutions N-8094 and made of some type of Syntheseal composite material.
maybe spray on cooper coat or spray tac. or nothing . RTV is used when there is no gaskit .not with a gaskit in most cases . If the surface was in poor condtion some times rtv would help , But if in new condtion I would not .

I use Permatex Ultra Black. Just a very light even smear around the gaskets.
Never had a leak.
I had a discussion with an engineer at Osco on this subject a few years back. He said although they label no sealant, and they machine tolerances as close as possible, it's just added insurance...

I ended up using "Permatex Hylomar Universal Blue Racing Gasket Dressing and Flange Sealant" that I found at my local O'Reilly's Auto Parts. The description sounded good so i bought it and used it on the installation. I kinda just painted it on with my fingers. Seemed to have worked.
