propellor removal

Post by manintheconoe »

Hello to everyone...

I recently aquired an f26 Trojan 1976 ... It has a snapped drive shaft & damaged prop... can i replace both while still in water???
I am very mechanically inclined, aircraft mech in Navy... so, the person just damaged the prop & snapped the shaft,,, is it doable to replace while in water? I have the nuts off prop, the shaft is snapped in the eng compartment,,, rite between trans & where it goes thru hull.??? i can see under water, there doesnt seem to be a pin in prop, tapped on it under water but not coming off. ???

Yes you can do it in the water... when you remove the shaft wait till it settles on the bottom then it will be more stable to work on.

Ready was kidding , you need to haul the boat . And I would look for other issues , shafts don't break that easy The strut could be bent .You need a puller for the prop , if the rudder is inlined with the shaft then it will need to be pulled ( some are off set )

Wow that's quite a hit to snap a shaft. I'd be a little worried about the tranny and the pressure plate too.
