Anyone use a Tankless Water Heater on their boat?

when it dies cut it up and haul it out, then get a little smaller one, that's alot of work for a heater, then go to one with a heat exchanger from an engine you'll love it lots of hot water without running the gen set. JMO

We haven't ever used the shower while out. We always use it on shore power.

you don't swing on the hook in that big pond ? when we anchor out is nice to have most of the time it's still hot in the morning and it helps with power managing with the a/c's and stove it we cook there. just something to keep in mind i guess

I like the propane tankless if your on the hook. it looks best for all

Would be a good idea if I would have had the money. Small propane tank and a Small Tankless waterheater and have plenty of hot water on demand without heating that water all day long.

I sold the boat about 6 months ago cause I didn't have the money. BUT I did install a Tankless in my new house. Can't beat it.

I had the same concerns, but will have an 8K genny which will produce enough 120V for AC, Refrig and instant heater such as at West. My concern is it gives a 24 degree temp rise.

Lets see water maybe at 60 deg then plus 24 deg rise is 84 deg not hot in my book. however as the water tanks are in the engine room if running the water should be much warmer and 28 deg would work.

29 amps to get 24 deg. rise . way to much draw you would have to shut off everything to get warm water if you have a single 30 amp hook up .

a 10 gallon water heater plumbed in to engine fresh water system exchanger gives hot water for over 24 hrs for the two of us...and the 6.5 gen set handles it fine with all 3 ac's on .....it works......k.i.s.s......

To Paul PF, I have an 8KW diesel genny so 8,000 watts divided by 120 volts equal 66.6 amps available at max assuming you use proper breakers etc. So should be plenty assuming my use of Ohm's law is correct.

However I do not think the temp rise is worth it in any case, IMO

I was referring to shore power most boats 30 foot and under are single 30 amp , A 8KW is a good size genset for a F28 .

Is you boat Gas powered ?

Yes boat is Gas, am installing a 25 gal diesel tank amidships. The Genny fits nicely between the two 318s but have not installed it as yet.

I see no issue in the different fuels as long as the correct fuel is used. The deck fill will be a diesel fill.

Thoughts?

Many ( most) diesel gen sets are not rated (read safe) in a gas environment . Some of the newer small diesel sets are . thats the bad news

The good news is a diesel genset should be worth more then a gas one . So you could do some wheeling and dealing
