Maybe because it is the cheapestgettaway wrote:Thanks guys, seems the Danforth is the "standard" per se.

Personally I use a Bruce and 25' chain... I find it works well in mud, weeds and sand with great holding power even when swinging.

Keep the Bruce! That thing is the best! Heck, if you don't want it, we'll be glad to keep it....we can swap you a nice Danforth off the Albin for it. lol!Commissionpoint wrote:I really don't know too much about the waters you boat in, so that being said I can't really comment on what I think is best to use there.
Personally I use a 14# Danforth. I boat on protected waters though, and its mostly either sand or mud on the bottom. There is a 32# Bruce included in the sale of the F-32, but I am gonna most likely replace it with my trusty 30+ year old Danforth, which has never let me down. It held a previous F-32 in a major storm until it passed several hours later. There were 3-4 footers rolling in head on in that storm, and I was hooked up in a sand bottom. Didn't drag at all, but I did have the engines idling in neutral the whole time in case the $#it hit the fan.
To answer the original question: 32 lb. Bruce, obviously, with 20' chain and 200' of rode. It doesn't budge. I think you can't be over-anchored, especially if you have a windlass.
thanks for the reply nancy
i sold it today for $ 250.00 to a retired guy who cruises, and will use the anchor.
My boat does not have a windlass, which is why I want a smaller Lewmar bruce knock off, (22#)
I have had tremendous luck with a 33# bruce on a boat twice the displacement, and I did get cold feet before I sold it today.
anyways, I'll probably regret selling a real Bruce, but not while I'm hauling anchor!
