I use a Danforth with about 30' of chain. NEVER moved even when the tide turns.............John

Thanks guys, seems the Danforth is the "standard" per se.

Maybe because it is the cheapest

Personally I use a Bruce and 25' chain... I find it works well in mud, weeds and sand with great holding power even when swinging.

I use delta plow 35lb with 30 foot of chain holds great...danforth as a back up

yes

but when we say 30' a chain there's 250' of rode in the locker...when you set up yours it should have around 20' of chain and maybe 150 to 200 of rode.

have bought a hook yet ?

Hook? Aka anchor? No not yet, I have 300 foot of the correct rope, we just measured tonight, that's all I have

That would be very nice you and appreciated, I can fixed anything used, the cheaper the restore cost the better, I'm not rich by any means, just wanted a boat worthy of off shore striped season lol

doesn't need any work, it's good to go...but it's been used alot in the past 3 yrs. I bought a new S/S one to replace its shines....

Personally I use a 14# Danforth. I boat on protected waters though, and its mostly either sand or mud on the bottom. To answer the original question: 32 lb. Bruce, obviously, with 20' chain and 200' of rode. It doesn't budge. I think you can't be over-anchored, especially if you have a windlass.

i sold it today for $ 250.00 to a retired guy who cruises, and will use the anchor.
My boat does not have a windlass, which is why I want a smaller Lewmar bruce knock off, (22#)

I have had tremendous luck with a 33# bruce on a boat twice the displacement, and I did get cold feet before I sold it today.

anyways, I'll probably regret selling a real Bruce, but not while I'm hauling anchor!
