Original Stern Light

Post by jefflaw35 »

Think I worded the topic wrong. Has anyone found a dome style light pointing downward towards the boat name and deck to replace the orginal Stern/swimdeck light that is rectangular shaped? I would like to use this hole to light up my swimdeck with LED. Of course the boat name as well....
Any ideas?

Your stern light has to shine behind you 135 degrees. Use a license plate lite for a trailer under your stern light to light up your transom.

hmmm, ok I need some more info. Say I closed in this rectangle hole, who would ever know? Specs? For the 74 trojan? How would any officer ever think to ask? I have an Anchor/rear light up on my hard top now just like alot of people do these days. Is that not legal? Do I have to keep this original stern light and the upper hard top light? Last I was told was that you must have a stern light mounted some where visible with in 2 miles. That is the up to date lights with domes. This stern light that We have at 135 degrees should be obsolete by now if you have a newer style else where, correct???? my hard top anchor/stern light should replace this?? yes, no, maybe??? try my luck???

For boats less than 12 meters, an all around white light can be used instead of a masthead light and stern light. Just be sure to make your stern light inoperable if you are using the masthead light as an all around light. It is illegal to have two white lights shining towards the rear.

When I get time, I'm replacing my chrome/brass Perko junk stern light with this Stainless Seachoice LED Rectangular Transom Light 02361:

And yes, it meets USCG 2NM requirements.
