How Long have you had your Trojan

I've been boating for 46 years but this is my first Trojan. I've had it since Jan.08 and have been using it on the Columbia River while I'm restoring it. In about a month I should have it finished (I hope) and will be taking it down stream to the ocean and keep it moored in Ilwaco Wa. for winter crabbing and fishing. I can't wait. Great boat!!!!
1975 F-32 "SIMPLY BLESSED"
The previous owner had the blue painted on from the rub-rail down. There are a few of them around but I do not think Trojan ever had any leave the factory this way. It was painted with Interlux Brightside.
Its been on about 6 years now. It requires no buffing or waxing. We keep the boat in the Mississippi River which is very "hard" water. It's almost as bad as salt water for leaving spots. About every three weeks, I rinse it down with vinigar water. If the spots are too bad, I use a product called "Ducky" that seems to cut it off.
We painted our last boat, a 78 Chris Craft with Brightside. It took me 10 3 day weekends in a row. Time consuming but not hard. You can spray on, but we put it on with a roller and tipped with a brush. You couldn't see a brush stroke anywhere. Its also a very hard paint when cured. Harder the gelcoat. My only advise is to build tent around it to keep the outside dust down and rain off for 48 hours after applying. t t It takes 2-3 layers of primer and 2-3 layers of paint to get an old girl to look like new. Dust and Rain = sanding the last layer off before the next....
Good luck.

Thanks for the comments on the boat. We love the Trojan. Its got great lines and inside it has tons of room, its all teak/mahogany inside. There are some more photo's at the link below if you want to check out the old girl.

Don't compare topside paint to bottom paint. Bottom paint stuff is a mess no matter who does it. The finish paints, if you are not in a hurry, they are not hard to do. You can save yourself 1000's of dollars by doing it yourself. Go to http://www.yachtpaint.com/usa/default.asp There is some videos there showing some projects and application. The one thing I learned was that you just throw away the rollers and brushes each day. Don't bother cleaning them.

We've had ours since July 1999. I knew the original owners when they first bought the boat in Feb 1977 and it's been on our lake in upstate NY ever since. Have redone a lot since 1999 including all new electric, new hot water heater, new gas tank, new cabin sole, etc, etc. Upgrade on electronics, etc. Great boat. Just took it this year on a 490 mile trip around the NYS canal system. Single original Chrysler 318 with (now) about 700 hours. Would have none other than the mighty Blue Heron!

76[Can never remember exactly] F 36,owned her for five seasons now. Out of Huron on Lake Erie. This last winter complete bottom blister repair job, new floor boards, carpeting, apartment size refrigerator, GPS/fish finder, new bridge VHF. Two years ago complete new canvas including a real cool aft camper type enclosure. Year before that, build 2 cabin chairs with storage, collapsible cherry wood table.[throw in there a new carburetor, new batteries all around, anchor rode, bilge pump and a thousand other odds and ends]. Break out another thousand... are you kidding?? Only a thousand? [and like everybody else, more projects and plans, can't think of anything else I'd rather do]

We bought our 1972 F-26 in July of 2004. So just over 4 years now. Great boat for the money and still going strong. Everyone is amazed at how much room is in the cabin for a 26' boat.
We replaced the motor with a reman 318 2 years ago, added a cockpit enclosure, changed the 9 gal holding tank to a 20 gal, replaced prop, added another battery, changed the drop down table to a cocktail table (more room), added rod holders, added window AC unit to cabinway door, injected epoxy into rotted bow, added anchor roller, replaced water tank with bladder tank (original was nasty), and so much more I can't think of that we have done, but what's worse is there is so much more I want to do. $$$

prowlersfish,
I haven't moved the boat much in the past month because of work load. So chances are it wasn't me.
Are you going to Hampton Bay Days? If the weather is right, the Paula Sea will be rafted up to 34' Mainship on the Hampton River between the Settlers Landing Road Bridge and Highway 64, up river of the birdge they shoot the fireworks off of, Friday and Saturday night.
The few past years at Bay Days the Sunday ride home has been hell. I don't know how we made it home 3 years ago. It seemed like 6 foot seas from Hampton to Little Creek. Talk about a white knuckle ride. It took over 2 hours to go 10 miles.
Maybe I'll see you there this year. I'll keep an I out.
Ken
