Turbo Charger

Post by pazeth »

Hi all,

I just bought a 36 convertible and now the engine under overhaul. I got 2 X Crusader 350 HP. Is it possible to install turbo charger? do anyone experiences?

Yes its possible but I would not recommend it not great for long runs underload , pistons would need to be very low composition , and doing it with marine manifolds won't be easy and the heat from the turbo can be a issue . Just not a good idea for this type of boat

Best bet is go with a new EFI engine if you want more power

Prowlerfish,

To that end, what all is required to go to EFI? My boat is an 81 with twin Chrysler 440's. I may, at some point consider a repowering, and thought of EFI, but have little idea what is involved.

Cheers.

The only way IMO to go with re powering and EFI is to get the complete Engine package , , you can get EFI kits , but I have yet to see on work well in a boat . So getting the compete engine with EFI is the best way to go mercruser marine power and crusader all offer a good package

Welcome aboard. What exactly are you hoping to accomplish by adding turbos?

Wow! An F36 in Indonesia? That I gotta see the pictures of. Especially if it ends up with turbos! Heiner's F32 in Germany was enough of a surprise (I didn't realize Trojans were shipped internationally), but that's cool. What's next - the Aussie Trojan?

I could see Bertrams and Hatties because of their blue water fishing lineage, and maybe some Chris Crafts because they have been around for a gazillion years and are everywhere, but Trojans would still surprise me.
