4 turns is allot of jet. Try setting them at 1 1/2 turns out and see how it runs. Could these carbs be due for a rebuild? Might be a little gummed up.

Sounds like the idle circuit might be gummed up---- with the idle at 750 to 800 rpm,throttle plates closed you should be between 1.5 and 3 turns open no more--- remember closed is lean and open is rich------ sometimes to overcome a vacuum leak you will have to fatten it up to get it to idle---- those carbs are endlessly tuneable with kits, metering rods,jets etc.----- google eddy carbs and see if there is a download of their user manual,it is great , lots of tips etc,----hope some of this helps--- Mike

Is there any way to clean the jets other than to pull the carb, clean it, and rebuild it?

The idle jets intersect fuel passages in the throttle body and meter the flow of fuel to the engine at their tip by reducing the orifice size at the end if the passage. A jet screwed in all the way will completely block the flow while backing it out will increase the flow.
In the case of a gummed up idle circuit, you can remove the screw jet and clean it however its usually the passages them selves that get contaminated. This requires a thorough cleaning to remedy the problem.
