hmmmmmm i believe that what you have are just chrysler marine engines. our 72 tri had twin chrysler 280's on a 440 block.
chrysler and crusader are two vastly different engines. the trojan manufactures plate that was mounted on the electrical panel listed the engine serial numbers and rotation along with the inspection number and hull number. if it's not there then it should be on the transmission bell housing just before the v-drive coupling. you might want to check the front or back of the intake manifold. some chrysler engines had the plate mounted there. hope this is of assistance to you.

Hi Aaron, thank you for the reply. I am a newbie to the site and came across it while searching for Trojan info on Tri Cabins. I have just bought a 74 Tri Cabin, after looking at a great many. I am up here in the Lake Simcoe , Lower Georgian Bay area. I have read many of your posts regarding the Tri cabin, and it gave me a lot of insight on what to look for. I have now bought my boat, but the deal dosnt close until Wed this week. Meantime the insurance people would like the serial numbers of each engine, so I needed to have an idea where to look when I go to the Marina on Wednesday, and open up the bunks to start looking. The boat is in fair shape, runs well, but needs a load of TLC to bring her up to par. I kind of enjoy working on a boat between cruises. I will probably make a lot of use of this site, I think its great this exchange of ideas. where the heck else can you pick up so much information from so many experienced people. Thanks again, If you dont see me reply promptly to a posting sometimes, I will be away for days on end sometimes, but will always get back to whoever is posting me.

If you can't find the plate as Aaron stated there is a number on the block in front of the intake . you may also find some numbers below the helm on the tag.

Hi Aaron & Prowlerfish. Thanks guys, I took possession of the Tri Cabin today, and the engine serial numbers were right where you said. There was a plate on the electrical panel, with all the info stamped on it. It also stated the boat was built at Niagara on The Lake, under the Firm name of Sheppard & Trojan by the Whitaker Corporation. My next step now will be getting a couple of Perko engine flush tees to cut into the raw water intake lines. I would like to do my own winterizing, and have been reading all the postings by you guys on how to winterize. And by the way Aaron, you were right. The engines on this boat are Chrysler 318 cu in, turning out 280 HP @ 4800 rpm. (Don't expect I will ever push the old girl that hard though) Take care & thanks all.

Re-check your info
Small block Chrysler

LM318 is 225 hp

360 is 250 hp ( not 100% on this one)

Big block Chrysler

383 is 280 hp

400 is 280 hp

440 is 300 or 330 hp

None of them I believe should turn 4800 rpm , that's Chevy land But I will check the books and up date .

i'm happy to have been of assistance. of course, now you are going to have to post pics. we love pics, and i for one, this particular vintage holds a special place in my heart. those chrysler engines never failed us nor did the walter v-drives. if you do not have info on the v-drives, simply contact walter www.waltergear.com and they can get you anything you need. all you need to do is supply the serial number from each v-drive as each one is unique. and remember, DO NOT run your engines in gear for long periods of time at the dock as the v-drives are water cooled. they need to have water flowing in and out.
again, MAZEL TOV on the tri cabin. once you get to really know her, you will love her. so much livable space in a small foot print.

Hi Guys, I have been away for a few days, (up to the boat, really) just came online a little while ago and saw your postings. Aaron, must apologize to you first. The engine info I gave to you came from the PO, and I just took it as a given. Now I have in my possession the original owners Manuel for the boat, and its in really good condition considering its age. Anyhow, the original specs for this hull number are as listed; Engine Designation M383B; 383 Cubic inch; 280HP @ 4000 rpm. Thanks prowlersfish also for your info, so these specs I now have are more in line with yours. The engines have a lot of hours on them but run really fine when we did a sea trial. No vibrations or anything unusual. Port eng has 975 hrs, and stbd eng has 1150 hrs.Seems like a lot of hours to me, but I will use them mainly just to cruise at 8/10 kts. The Port eng has new exhaust and riser manifolds, replaced somewhere in the last 5 years. V-Drives are Walter as you noted Aaron. When the engines are first fired up a large red light is lit under port and stbd V-drives on the helm, but as soon as we started to move out the channel @ about 1000rpms the lights both went out. The previous owner said that if these lights come on while underway, the v-drive is overheating or low on oil ? V-drives are new to me and I will spend some time reading up the information I have on them in the owners manual. I only have about 5 weeks left up here before they start lifting all the boats out & start winterizing. I mentioned on a previous post that I wanted to install a couple of Perko flush fittings in the raw water intake lines. The sea cocks are I guess standard Trojan bronze, with no flush ports on them. They are bedded in well and I wouldn't want to disturb them because at present they are tight and leak free. Have read all your previous posts on winterizing and even printed them off for reference.Going back up tomorrow for the weekend, putting in new bilge pumps. Take care guys, and thanks.
