While looking at several mid-late 80's potential Trojan 36 tri-cabins for purchase over the summer, I've noticed the wall covering in the aft cabin appears to be nothing more than a vinyl type of wallpaper. In most of the ones I've looked at, the beige wall covering is usually lifting at seams or edges. That same covering is also present on the front inserts of the shelving units in both the aft cabin and main salon.
Has anyone ever attempted to replace this material?
Am I correct...is it simply vinyl wall covering like simple wallpaper?

Re: Tri-cabin salon and aft cabin wall panel coverings
I have a 73 tri cabin and I have tried to remove that wallpaper in the forward head. I gave up and covered it with wood panel. I do not know what glue they used as it is permanent without using gallons of varsol or stripper so I decided to leave the rest of mine original.
This probably does not help but try a small corner to see how sticky it is. You may be able to paint it if you just wish to change colour.

when my mom attempted to 'update' our 1972 tri cabin around the mid 1980's, she tried to remove the vinyl green covering. she almost dislocated her shoulder attempting to pull it off. we gave up on that project very fast. it's impossible. one thing dad did do in the forward head was rough it up using acetone then used 'wall paper paint'. it worked fairly well. you are right though, it was on for life.

Re: Tri-cabin salon and aft cabin wall panel coverings
I have great concerns about trying this on my 76 F32. It appears to be some sort of textured vinyl. There is probably some really nice teak behind, but our whole salon , galley, dinette and sleeping area is this material. Would this be original, and no teak behind. Have had some people suggest we scrap and go back to the teak, but if this has to take a bunch of effoooooooort , not sure I want to go there. We only get a day and 1/2 per week.
Season is short, we make the best of it.

I have a 73 tri cabin and I agree with all the comments except I found I was able to peel off the covering on the sliding cupboard doors in the solan. The wood panels underneath look pretty good, so we left them natural.

That lovely wallpaper is on plywood. Trojan would not have put that on teak or mahogony.
