10 meter mid cabin swim platform help needed

Post by yorklyn »

I was hoping that someone with a mid cabin could take a measurement for me. I have absolutely no Idea how I could have screwed this up but apparently I just mounted my swim platform lower than it should be!!! Just realized it when I compared it to an old picture! The stern had a few stress cracks in the gel coat around where the platform was originally mounted so When I replaced the stringers I strengthened the stern from the inside. Most of the original mounting holes got glassed over but I left a few for reference . I used the reference holes and it appeared all 4 mounts laid out perfectly.
I was wondering is someone could get me a measurement from the bottom of the rub rail to the top of the swim platform and another from the rub rail to the actual water line (or rough estimate)
I'm trying to see if It is high enough above the water line that I could leave it where its at. If I need to re-do this and raise it I think I'll cry!!
I dont believe in simply filling holes with epoxy so I will have to grind out all of the holes, glass over them, fair them, 5 coats of barrier coat and 3 coats of bottom paint.
if you look at the before and after pic you can see the difference in the rudder covers and holes for the trim tabs

Thanks for any help you guys can give me,

Todd

Todd,

for what it's worth on my Express non-midcabin model I just measured from the top of the boot stripe edge to the top of the teak swim platform is 5.5".

I was going to give you a measurement from the scuppers, however my scuppers will be closer to the waterline than yours as your floor is raised as is your transom vs. the express models.

For this project, I would suggest a common reference point be used. Perhaps the most easily transferred measurement could be taken from the centerline bottom of the hull to the top of the swim platform.

Doing it that way should insure that everything goes as it should.

Your new boat looks great !

Thanks Harris.
I just found a site that I can order longer stainless mounting channels . If I can get the correct height I can just order "higher" / "longer" channel to raise the height while still using the holes I drilled. I'll just add an additional hole at the top.
Either a measurement from keel up like Harris said or rub rail down would help me figure out the correct size.

Thanks Again,
Todd

Thanks Bob!
I measured mine today. I'm 28-3/4 from rub rail to top of platform and 22 from keel to bottom of the platform. I'm guessing im around 3 inches low, if its 3 inches or less I think i may be good.

Thanks

Hey Todd,
We're heading out to the marina today to take a quick run. Only two more weeks left :( .
I'll take measurements for you. It's the least I can do for all of the help your posts have given me.
I'll be restoring the arch and pulpit over the winter and might be asking you for some tips.
Take care,
Mike

Ok Todd, here you go.
27 1/2" from top of platform to top of rail.
36 7/8" from water line to top of rail.
The top of the platform lines up even with the top edge of the rudder cover.
Let me know if you need other dimensions.

Mike

One more....approx. 25 3/8" from top of platform to bottom of rub rail.
I took a picture seeing that the rail angles a little downward.

Mike and Bob,
I cant thank the two of you enough for your help! Having those measurements is a huge help. It looks like I'm around 3 inches low. I'm going to take your "waterline " measurement Mike and see how close I currently am. Just in case I just ordered 4 new pieces of stainless channel that are 3 inches longer than the originals (12 vs 9) from stainlesssteel.com. They were right around $80 shipped. I figure it will be better to have them on hand just in case. I'll post my results.

Thanks Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
