10 Meter Express Cabin Door Help

Post by FLRAVEN »

Since I purchased my boat last year the one thing that has continually bugged me is the cabin door arrangement the po had installed. It's very nice workmanship but it is the only piece of teak on the entire boat and it just doesn't fit. So last night I purchased the original lexan cabin door of a junk 10 meter that was in very sad shape (must have been one of the first 1981 10 Meters). They only had the door without the track that mounts to the dash or the lock catch. So can any of you 10 Meter Express guys post a picture of exactly what the track on the top and bottom of the cabin door slide looks like so I can try to fabricate something close. Thanks

I can take a picture tomorrow if needed, but rather than fabricate something, a safe guess would be that the track and rollers are something Beacon or Marine Tech would have available.

Question: What else is available and where is the vessel located?

PK needs a dash, I might like a few items as well.

Thanks RWS, I would love to see a picture of what the original parts look like. I will definitely contact beacon first. I think I may have found an alternative method here: http://www.boatoutfitters.com/boat-slid ... dware.html. The boat was located in Cutler Ridge in South Miami. There wasn't much usable left on it and I had to have a friend translate for me to talk them into selling me the door. Here's the ad: http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/boa/4054969400.html

I replaced my worn out slider wheels with some ultra high density plastic pieces. I cut them in the shape of a "T" cross width, and make them about 2" long. Sprayed with dry lubricant. Works fine. I also removed both C channels, took a scotch brite to them, and cleaned and painted them with rustoleum clear coat for metal.

The issue I had with the wheels was that I couldn't find a stud and wheel combo that fit. I got lost for hours on McMasters and Graingers. Maybe it was the fact that I didn't know the exact terminology of the roller wheel.

FYI, the bottom C rail mounts directly to the wall. The top C rail mounts to the stainless S/Z shaped water guard thingy. The screws are V head, and fit flush or slightly lower to the inside of the C rail. The water guard is screwed into the deck. I put liberal butyl bedding tape on both upper and lower C rails, as well as the water guard.

John, thanks so much for the pictures. That's just what I was looking for. Bimmerbill, that's a great idea about forgoing the slider wheels. I can just machine some delrin to a tee shape that fits the opening on the c channel I get.

Thanks Again,

Scott
