Big D wrote:If it's a raw water cooled unit, you should be using the lower temp stat. If it's closed cooling (fresh water cooled, has coolant and heat exchanger), It's likely you have the higher temp stat. You must confirm the one you have as the temp cut off switch spec is dependent on the stat used.

Thanks for the tip. Just checked the parts manual for the MCE - thermostat in the bottom of the head has only one listed it opens at 202*F and only one listed for the exhaust with no temp stated.

That seems way too high for a raw water cooled system, especially if it were used in a salt water app. with no other t-stat temp option. Are you sure there is no heat exchanger and coolant in the block?

That would be a high temp limit not the t-stat for water flow.

The way I read that, you were describing the t-stat temp rating and no spec available for the switch!
202F for the cut off switch is right, even ok for salt water app as that would not be normal operating temp. The question is what is the spec for the t-stat for your app (raw or fresh water cooled).
