Looking to replace both my lower station's tachometers on my F32. Has anyone replaced theirs? Was hoping for an original pair but may need to go with a new set although they won't match the rest of the gauges.
Thanks.

Re: Tachometers
I got a rebuilt or used one in my lower. I am not sure who or when it was put in, but I do know its not original. It matches, so its probably from some similar Trojan helm.
I know from doing cars that there are good rebuilders out there.

If I was going to replace I'd look at VDO.
Beacon might also have something for you.

Re: Tachometers
Thanks CP, I was thinking of going with VDO as well. I'll look into both of your suggestions.

Re: Tachometers
I used Teleflex Red International gauges when I redid mine. Couldn't find any DetMars anymore but the Teleflex Reds had similar 'feel' to what was on my '79.

I like the looks of these. Classic style. Easy to read. VDO accuracy.Stripermann2 wrote:Thanks CP, I was thinking of going with VDO as well. I'll look into both of your suggestions.

Re: Tachometers
I just took a quick look in my spare parts pile and found a set of old DetMar gauges, including tach, oil pressure, water temp, fuel, and voltage, that you can have if you want. They are working as far as I know, and were wired up to a Chrysler 360.
Back in 2002 I blew all instruments on the starboard engine at both the upper and lower helm stations - some kind of voltage or current spike that the marina service department and insurance adjuster diagnosed as a lightning strike... I replaced all the gauges with the Teleflex Red Internationals, and I had thought I kept the old port gauges as spares.
I don't know if I might find a second set if I dig through things on the weekend, or if I only kept the one set...
Here is what the Tach looks like
