Anyone have info for replacing the rudder bushings please. i just finished installing bushings in my steering tie rod and rudder arms(reamed the ovaled out 1/2in. holes to 5/8 and installed bronze bushings) but still a little play in the rudder shafts. are parts available or has anyone replaced theirs? upper and lower, how hard to change? trying to splash next week!!

Mine are also sloppy.
I have a replacement set, in a box somewhere.
As I recall, they are plastic?

Re: Ten Meter Rudder bushings
I'd like to do maintenance on mine while it is out of the water. I bought it last year so haven't had a chance.
What sort of maintenance or adjustments are required? How much free play should they have?

Re: Ten Meter Rudder bushings
are you talking about plastic/polymer bushings like the mid cabins have to support the lower portion of the rudder or an actual bronze bushing ?

Re: Ten Meter Rudder bushings
I don't know what I have.
It's a project I have been afraid to tackle, especially since the boat is either on the lift, or in the water and not on the hard.

Re: Ten Meter Rudder bushings
the lower ones look to be plastic, but the uppers i cant tell without removal, but i dont want to take it apart until i know if parts are available. 80% of my looseness was the oblong arm holes and tie rod. that is fixed good so i think the rudder bushings will be ok to wait one more season. but i definitely want to get new parts for next winters projects

Re: Ten Meter Rudder bushings
I did these a few years back on my mid cabin. For some reason, my setup is different than Todd's mid cabin even though our boats are only a year apart.
The bushings on mine look like a top hat and made out of thin plastic. One didn't take out all of the slack so I slightly enlarged the opening and used two on each side. They go into the hole under the tiller arm(s). The real steering play was where the tie rod ends connect to the tiller arms. Those I over drilled and used delrin bushings (just a tube cut) and that made a huge difference.
I have zero play in my steering which is a tell tale old boat attribute. That and shifter/throttle controls that take two hands to move
