New Owner of '69 Trojan

Post by jstorrer1 »

Greetings to all of you on this site!!! I am new to the boating world, wife had boats all her life, but I don't have a lot of experience on the water. Last week we purchased a '69 Trojan boat. I have not had the chance to look for the serial numbers, so I am not sure exactly what I have yet (but have seen nothing like it on this site as of yet). It's a 30' or 31' fiberglass hull. The interior cabin is all mahogany, and in beautiful condition. The cockpit is completely encapsulated with wood, with quite a few pieces rotted away in back where exposed. I believe this is all white oak, not teak. Previuous owner repowered her in 1990 with twin 350 Chevy Mercruisers and Velvet drives. He was a toolmaker, and made everything out of Stainless Steel, including exhaust system and twin 55 gas tanks. I am looking forward to fixing her up a little and slaying some Walleye and Perch out here on Lake Erie.

Jake

I will try to post pics, wish me luck!!

Welcome aboard,

Haven't a clue about the boat other than the above decks does not look like the F-boats I have seen, but there are some historians out here.

Thanks for the replies everyone!! Excited to get started on it, now if only the weather would warm up.

I am still curious as to the origins of this boat. There is no hull # on the transom that I can see. Hopefully tomorrow I will get a chance to look for the mfg plate somewhere in the interior.

Is this a factory boat? Or is there a lot of custom work that has been done, especially on the top. I have not seen any other boats on here with the 3 Window configuration on each level.

Looks to be a Trojan hull with custom top sides . Did the Paper work have numbers for the hull ?

The title's hull # was issued by Ohio Division of Watercraft. The title also lists the boat as a "31' Trojan Sea Troll". I haven't seen any references to a Sea Troll model anywhere.

If your superstructure and deck are aluminum, the PO may have used parts from a Marinette. If glass, it sounds like a Custom job on a trojan hull.

I think the pic below (Marinette) was at least inspiration for your custom design.

The superstructure is definitely fiberglass. The coating doesn't seem to be a gelcoat though, found a lot of places (mainly around windshield structure where the coating (maybe paint ) has flaked off exposing good quality glass, with glass fabric visible underneath but the glass was very rough to the touch. I noticed it while replacing the cracked windshields this weekend.
