sliding screen on F28

Post by Dante D »

does anyone have any idea how the sliding screen which runs along the tracks on port and starboard sides of an F28 windows, comes out? Im trying to remove this to re screen this as the screen has sun fading, but it seems you have to take apart half the boat to get this thing out, any ideas?

My 77 had screen but not sliding. it was metal framed like what you have at a house, screen held in frame by a vinyl spline. My 78 has snap on screen outside cover that does not interfere with the sliding of the side windows, front can come back and rear can go forward. By the way the plastic channeling is difficult to change as first you must remove the black metal frame from the outside, then find the small screws holding the E track and change out. The f28 does not use H track as other boats but employs horizontal E track that is laying on its side. Pricy but can be had from several vendors.

FYI 77 has opening front windows 78 does not, also 77 dash must be reached from the back side in the head, 78 has a tilt forward dash, take off the wheel and it is easily assessable.

You have f28 questions give me a shout I have researched most of them.

I have a set of screen frames that go to the f28 but they snap in. The rear sliding window can still slide forward with these screens installed but not the front to the rear.

On my F-26, looking from outside of the boat there's a small plate/spacer between the forward plexiglass and the screen frame with 2 small screws holding it in place. Remove the screws & plate then slide the screen frame forward until it's hard against the forward plexiglass. Now lift the screen frame up into the top track until the bottom of the screen frame is exposed and swing it out towards you. Your done.

Hope this helps.
