'69 Chrysler 383 Coolers

Post by oldwood69 »

Need a little help from the crew here. I would like to replace the engine oil and transmission oil coolers on my motors. I have had trouble with them in the past and it is time for some new parts when it comes to reliability. Here is my problem, I can't remember the dimensions!!! These are on a 1969 SeaVoyager with twin Chrysler 383's. I am positive that they are 2" in diameter, and I believe that the engine oil cooler is a 6" coil (the cooling part, actual length probably 8-9") with 3/4 threaded fittings and 3/4 hose fittings. If my foggy memory is correct, the transmission cooler is the same diameter and fittings, but is a 9" coil (probably 10-11" overall length). Does this sound right??? I found a place (Palmer Power in Houston) that can have the coolers made to whatever dimensions and fittings I want, I just want to make sure that I order them correct as they are custom built and not returnable. Or, does anyone know of or have recommendations to get them somewhere else? Thanks!

My father's old '69 also had a 383, but it's been gone for 15 years. Big D may be able to help you with dimensions etc. I know it's a far way to order from, but Anthony Keats Marine http://www.anthonykeatsmarine.com/ is an old school Chrysler dealer and may be able to provide proper replacement parts. Yes, it's a long way to order and ship from, but with the exchange on the dollar you may save 20% off the top!

I sent an email to Anthony-Keats last night and they were quick to reply this morning. Price is comparable to what I found at Palmer, but timing was a little longer. Duh, on the contacting Beacon! That should have been my first try...will get in touch with him now. Thanks for the help!
