Refinish Teak Bow Pulpit

Thanks Guys. I am also adding a new windlass, so I am going to cut the holes etc before finishing. I'll post a few progress pics shortly.

OK, It's done. I am going to reinstall it with the new windlass in a couple of weeks. That teak sands like granite! I sanded, sanded and sanded. I have about 7 coats of Cetol natural teak finish on it. I am pleased with the results. I just hope it puts up with the abuse, but time will tell.

Looks great! you wouldn't know that was the same pulpit.
The shiny stainless/polished hardware (windlass, edge band) really turns it up a level

You can't beat the finish and protection. Just plan on a light scuff and re-coat yearly! Great Job!

Question while in process of refinishing my pulpit. My roller will be back some from the one here. I am going to mount the windless behind the pulpit on the glass. any problems with doing this?. It should feed into anchor locker there.

Yep that teak is hard but belt sander does the job.

Check the angle at which the rode would feed into the windlass to make sure it meets specs -- it is in the windlass manual. Being somewhat lower puts the windlass at a disadvantage, maybe. Depends on your geometry whether it is enough to worry about. I think the angle on my Vetus is <= 12 deg above horizontal. And don't forget a good backing plate, it is what holds back all that pulling power....

my pulpit has a large spotlight mounted where this ones pulley comes through. I will check angle I can see how higher is better, so may have to set the winch on a pedestal or shim making it the same or higher level.

The angle is 6 deg on his windless (Lemar ) On my Lemar pro 1000 the rode goes down slightly to the roller I'm sure its is out of spec . However its opp is flawless . I see no issue too warrant change on mine . Now if it was way out that would be different and honestly I had no specs or book when I installed it . ( used 5 months old and a heck of a deal )

My advice with the cetol is to make sure you give it a "fresh up" coat before the sun manages to break through the finish. I used to give my teak one coat every two years. I gave that small section at the bottom of the ladder to the swim platform a new coat yearly.
