I have a 1977 F-26 Express, and last weekend while fueling her, the gas cap took a plunge into the drink. One second it was on the deck, and the next I saw bubbles from it taking a plunge.
Does anyone know the correct size so I can order a replacement?

I have looked everywhere, and thought I found the correct size online. Long story short, the cap I ordered was not the right size, so I am still looking.....

If it is original it is probably one of the chrome plated brass....hard to match....just change the whole deck fitting to a perko or the like , that way if another goes splash, they are easy to get....also if you get the ones that are some sort of plastic the risk of static spark drops dramatically as all the old metal ones need to be grounded to the boat bonding/ground wiring to dissipate spark energy....just a thought..easy change imo...
I haven't measured but the pipe used looks like standard galvanized pipe. Is there a pipe cap that would fit?

Maybe, the original cap has an O ring to seal it. I do not think it is NPT threads, I believe they are straight ergo pip threads would not work. I need to go check my derelict f28 for one, Will take a look, if not here at farm it may be on the running f28, I think I might have removed them and took them to the lake for extra. Will check when I go to lake on Tuesday if not on the old boat.

I still had one gas cap on my old junk f28 1977 model. Should fit. Send me your address and phone # and will mail it to you with the O-ring that goes in the base part. I would recommend getting a new O-ring though. Just send me what you think it is worlh to you.
BTW it has a part of broken bead change I would get a length of brass chain and fix it so it is stuck down in the fill pipe so you do not have this happen again.
