By the way, about that big water. It is not all it has cracked up to be. If there is a good north wind, waves will build all the way from Canada. Because Lake Erie, is relatively shallow, and shaped like a soup bowl it can get rough as hell, with a very narrow wavelength. This can make it quite uncomfortable, even dangerous quickly. Almost every boater on Lake Erie finds this out the hard way at one time or another. Combine that with thunderstorms rolling off the great planes and you really have to be careful. Sunday boaters who don't pay attention, or don't know what they are doing quickly find it unpleasant.

question: does it just get so cold that you can not keep the boats in the water at all and use them, or is it a matter of practicality? i mean, is it just too much trouble to rig them so they can be used all year? and if you could, would it be worth it as far as activity on the water goes?

the only time i've lived up north was in ne pa, about 10 years ago. was there for a little over a year, and hated it...mainly due to the winter. back then, i had no interest in boats and this kind of thing never even crossed my mind, so i have no clue.

Tuck; we know you're kidding, don't think you're a putz. about pulling the boat, usually it's a matter of practicality. A lot of Lake Erie, depending on the severity of the winter freezes over. No pointing keep in the boat in the water all winter. In addition, snow on the superstructure, moisture with repeated freeze/thaw can't be good for those saturated soft decks.

sonic?! we don't even have sonic's up here! as fas as leaving the boat in...most of the time i can drive out and icefish right behind where my slip is. ice here would eat fiberglass boats alive! here is a link to a live camera in the marina where i dock. it faces east, directly on lake michingan.

ice fishing only passes the time for awhile then winter just becomes long and cold. thats usually when a trip to cosat rica or ixtapa, mexico is in order.

went last year for the first time and had a blast! a friend of mine from florida turned us on to it. he's been going for a few years now. fishing was great and the prices were not over inflated. i liked it because it wasn't a tourist trap. i would like to try trinidad this year but, i think with the new house the closest i'm going to get is southern wisconsin!

I lived in the South for a few years and I'm still not ready tp leave the North. My blood is too thick for the heat during the summer down there. I'll stick with my occasional trip to visit you southerners. Besides, tell me about that little storm you just had. We had a little rain and some wind. LOL
