I was commodore of our "yacht club" if you can call a bunch a drunks on an upstate NY lake a yacht club, and renamed many a boat. There are some ceremonies you can go through and yes, Google is the place to find them. There is some rumor that to fully rename a boat you need to rechristen it with a splash of urine from a virgin and mounting a sprig or branch of pine to the rail. Good luck with the first one!

I think Neptune does look over lakes and rivers. We changed the name on our wellcraft without any ceremonies. In two months time Exhaust hose blew out (middle of lake Erie), transmission leaked fluid out and burnt up trans. ( middle of lake Erie) exhaust riser plugged up (other side), electrical short circuit drained batteries, and last but not least hit sand bar and bent up NEW props....... Wellcraft sold now looking for Trojan. Will NOT change name

My Pop changes the name of every boat he gets- to "Aquarius"- that way he doesn't have to get new monogrammed napkins!

May I suggest that would all likely have taken place anyway if you had not changed the name.
Every boat I have bought has had a name change without even cracking the champagne.

Before I changed the name, "lady lou" was always breaking down, a gas tank leaked into the bilge, engines wouldn't stay running, bent a prop, the lights wouldn't work, the windshield wipers wouldn't work, the water pump, bilge pumps and many other things didn't work and the boat top leaked, just to mention a few problems. After a little work and changing the name, and praying for the blessing of the fleet "Simply Blessed" is right with the world. If I was superstitious I would say it had the wrong name but I prefer to think that we are just Simply Blessed. :D

Wowzer - the day we went to see our boat is was pouring! It was on a mooring so we jumped on a whaler to to get out to the boat. We were SOAKED by the time we got to the boat.

After we got aboard, the sun broke out and an incredible rainbow broke out and arched high above the river we were on. Never have I seen anything like it. We took it as a sign.

It sounds as though you have been blessed in a few ways, Wowzer. First, you have a great boat. Second you have the ability to fix all those problems on it. And most importantly, you have a wife as wonderful as Mrs. Wowzer who lets yougo boating so much and lets you play on the website here.

bfly, There is a lot to be said for rainbows. We always watch for them. This picture was taken by the boat in front of us last spring right after the blessing of the fleet (in May, Tuck) on the first cruise of the year. They said the rainbow ended on the water on each side of the boat but from our boat we couldn't see it.

Eddie, you are right about a wonderful wife. It's great to have my best friend as excited about boating and fishing as I am. That's why I make every effort to make the boat as comfortable as possible for her. If Mama is happy.... :D
I have gotten alot of info and help from the great people on this site to help with those fixup projects. We, like Prowlerfish, stripermann and all the others, we feel we are so blessed to be able to enjoy this great passtime and I have gotten a real attachment to these forum members and my wife and I are greatful. There is something special about water people.........it's starting to get sloppy here ....I'm going to the boat.

Changing a boat name? No problem, I have done it many times. Of course, only after a major refit was completed. What? Do I look crazy?

What if your boat does not have a name in it? When I bought mine there was not one.

When I bought mine its name was Daddy's Debit, the owner I bought it from removed the name before I picked it up. It stayed without a name for 2 yrs then pretty much named itself. Every time I went to fix or upgrade something everyone would tell me oh, that's no problem....well as we all know, once you go digging..... So that's how I got the name No Problem
