Sounds like i will be checking the distributor advance next. I will let you know once the rebuilt carb is back in.

Good feedback. I'll bring the timing gun too.

g36 wrote:my chrysler 318 stbd side was not reaching above 3000 rpms either i pulled the top of the distributor and found the advance was frozen solid lots of rust and after freeing this there were no springs left. definetly a problem. i have the original distributor and there are reportedly no springs for it so i went to autozone and bought a spring kit and played around with the different weights and now the motor gets apx 4000 rpms and the throttles are almost equal now at cruise where before they really werent close. i would be thinking about iginition as a possibility as others have stated.
So i thought i would update everyone.

1. Rebuilt carb. This was great, super easy start and idles right away without holding a high idle to warm it up. I can sure tell the other one needs rebuilt now. (Winter project)

2. Corrected the timing, it was set for an I/O at 8 BTDC, set to 6 BTDC

These have had zero impact to lack of WOT RPM. Talking with another Trojan owner at the marina the suspect is the Distributor. Weights/Springs. He mentioned having a similar issue with his 454's. It ended up being that the weights wor a grove in the plate at the bottom of the distributor, this grove kept them from opening all the way. He pulled the weights and ensured the riding surface was smooth and lubricated. That resolved it for him. I will work on that this coming weekend.

If this has done anything for me its helped me pull all the data together around the engines. I have the full service manuals now and gone through many parts of the engine and ensured proper setup. Everything is going well, it runs like a top, just not getting the WOT RPM. No real big deal IMO outside of its just not correct. I view her as no speed boat anyways.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'm crossing my fingers that i get this licked this weekend.
