Most all single grades contain detergent . there are some non detergent oils out there . but they do not even come close to meeting the needs of your engine . more suited for compressors and pre 1950/60s cars . Most likely the oil your using contains detergent

never seen any marina engine recc anthing but 30w / 25-40 or 15w-40

Dunno. All I know is that the PO always used it, and they purr like kittens. He was also a 3rd generation waterman, and the sales manager for an oil company. I used 20W-50 in my Harley too, and my BMW GS1150. I think it is a nice compromise.
