Got it..thanks. When I was buying the boat, I gently turned each prop/shaft with the tranny in neutral to make sure nothing was seized up at the business end. The cutlass bearings made a screeching sound like fingernails on a chalkboard. Is that because they were not wet? or is there some issue I need to know about them?

Humm - that doesn't sound good ... mots are some form of nitrile rubber, and I don't htink that shoudl "screech", and I've never heard one screech, but I haven't been under many boats on the hard turning the prop shafts, so someone else with more experience should reply.

Dump water on it and turn it some more and see what happens. Did the shaft have play in it or was it ni9ce and tight?

The screech is from turning dry. Doesn't happen with all but some will.

OK Thanks guys. I'll water them down real good then turn them again. There was no play in the shafts when I tried this. nice and screechie tight.

They also could binding do to being out of alignment because the boat is blocked up and not in the water

Very possible. Actually the stbd shaft alignment looks a bit out to me just by eyeballing it. Will it go back into shape after returning to the water or do I need an alignment tool while it is blocked up?

depends how it its blocked , you can get it close on land but finale adjustment in the water is the right way

I put a flushing valve on the raw intake hose--once done very simple to run engine the hard

The flushing valve sounds like the way to go...thanks. For the immediate, I'm talking to BobCt about buying his "Fake-a-Lake"

What is "Fake-A-Lake"?
My dog did that on the last trip to the Rockville Regatta, but I don't think that's what you were referring to.

Basically a $55.00 modified toilet plunger with hose attachment built in and a long adjustable pole to place under the boat and over the raw water intake. Basically a "Fake" Lake so you can run your engines on the hard if you happen not to have hose attachments installed in your intake strainers near the engines.

Why not add a T, valve and water hose connector to your intake hose - close the scuppers and opne the T-Valve to your hose connection and it pups in. No worries of the toilet plunger coming off ...
