prowlersfish wrote:Your in FLA won't take long for growth on the props and shafts to slow you down . even in Va cleaning the running gear 1 or 2 times a year is common unless you have Propspeed or Zinckoat on the props . you may get 2 years out of the bottom paint Muti coats of muti season paint , But you will never get that out of the running gear .
Paul: Here in Norway we have a marker pen called Penol, or Pelican. I think the brand came from USA. Anyway it is a ink, normal red ink, waterproof, smells like boose or moonshine, we put this stuff on the propellers and shafts. And it stops the growth complete. And the best thing is it dont fade away or dissapear one way or another. In the end of the season its still there. Cheap and effective. I will try to post a picture of the red props.
By the way: Welcome onboard!

There are dozens of things that can cause you to not hit proper cruising RPM, but if you are burning 2 gallons per mile, then yeah - that's most likely a drag problem (or your props have had the snot beaten out of them).
Don't think you posted what speed are you getting out of it at the RPM you are getting - that might also help diagnose. If you are totally fouled, you probably shouldn't be getting beyond 10 or 15 knots.
thats what we thought. 10-15 knts @ 2400 rpm. the boat doesnt have any electronics yet and i forgot to bring my garmin on the day i moved it to the marina. with everything the guy told me he did to it(tune up, carbkits, ect..)i,m beginiing to think there probably is something on the props or shafts. this is a busy weekend for us i hope i can find time to do a little dive under and check it out by monday. you guys have a good holiday weekend.
i have another question. how do i know if my engines are the LM or M series engines? and what is the difference?
antlr-king you should have the LM engines the stoped making the M engines in the late 60s even thought I have seen a few early 70s marine that where M engines ( old stock)

Life is to short for a ugly boat
ok....clean the bottom. and LM engines. now i need to get in the water....
thanks alot.....
i was also wondering if you could give me some pointers on how to operate the head. where would the holding tank be located? and should it be metal or plactic? i flushed the toilet 1 time and the water seemed to back up into the bowl. the smell wasnt all that great. im sure it needs cleaned out. im going to have it pumped out at the marina and clean everything. not sure if i need to replace any or all the hoses. there sure is alot more to learn than my 24' hydra-sports wa. anyway im having fun with it. im sure it going to be a great boat once i figure it all out....lol
wouldn't hurt to change the big white satiation hoses from the toilet to the holding take and anywhere else they may be in the head plumbing.........they pick up an odor and you can't get rid of it without replacing........good luck with the bottom and head.............John
ok. went in the water. not much visability. pretty much had to feel around. props did have a good amount of barnicals on them. the rudders did as well. the port rudder, as i was feeling it on the left side of it there is a 3 to 4 inch round zinc disc. it came off in my hand.?. its in good shape. it looks like the mounting bolt may have corroded. not sure because i cant see it. i need to get into some cleaner water. the water at the marina looks like chocolet milk. the bottom seems to have some algea on it which comes off very easily with this little scrubber thing i had. and when i felt under on the bottom there was some very small barnicals in spots. i guess im going to find a place close by and have it hauled out for a day to inspect and clean. then i will know for sure what condition everything is in down under.
you guys were right. that should fix my rpm trouble huh?
now with the head, i could not get it pumped out. the marina im at dosent have that service. i did trace all lines and hose to figure out where everything goes. the holding tank to me looks very small. no bigger than 5 gallons. also i ran both the sinks for a while and the fresh water coming out of them was very smelly as well. not sure what to do about that. i guess im going to drain the fresh water tank. flush it out some how and replace all fresh water hoses. fun fun.......thanks guys for all your input. will keep you posted.....
