If we are talking double braided nylon, your boat's not big enough to develop enough pull in a 30mph wind to snap a line that size. I thought they tested the pull on all those lines before they left the factory, so would be surprised if it just failed.
It has to be an abrasion issue, or something has been dumped on it (gas, kerosene, solvent?) to weaken it and make it bad in that spot.
Actually, don't shoot me here... just asking... you never did say it was nylon. This wasn't polypropylene crap, was it? Again, don't shoot me... I only ask because I have seen people using polypropylene, and I have also seen them using trucking tie-downs and winch straps with hooks or carabiners snapped over the cleats!!!

unfortunately i threw the line out and replaced it with one just like it, i purchased the lines at west marine and they were 27.95 and yes they were nylon west marine brand.... never had an issue with them but hey it is material and defects do happen, im not to stressed about them, as far as something weakening the lines, i doubt that were to happen as i took them out of the packaging and tied them straight to the boat, upgraded all of the lines all at once.....
