you might contact Bob Smith at American Diesel and see if they can help on the diesels

4000 hours on a nturally aspirated diesel isnt that high, if you could get an accurate oil oil sample it would help, if the engine oil has been recently changed, you may not get the true story, I am sure Paul could give you more on this.
We have a lot of JD engines in industrial service in our company, they are bullet proof, Lugger and norther lights use the base engines for their marine products.

FYI .Am going to pass on the Grand Banks. too big with too much teak, interior in ok shape but very tired, would drive me crazy untill I had the whole thing refinished.Stll looking... ?single diesel.... have some prospects...

There is a 36 here on the Chesapeake...1984 I believe, for 39,000. Boat looks great...needs new tanks. Twin Lehmans. I love the boat...but my perfect GB is the Europa with a single. These boats handle great with single screw.
