I agree that flybridges don't look so good on smaller/shorter boats... maybe 30' should be a minimum.jefflaw35 wrote:wow i really like that idea Michael, in the first picture, i wish i liked flybridges on these boats but i cant seem to get past the odd look.
Main reason why I like flybridges is visibility from the helm.... Georgian Bay has tons of rocks which you can't see from a lower helm. Same thing in the Bahamas.
Here is one of my routes:

Sometimes we don't want to get close to the rocks

see thats odd. I LOVE the look of my flybridge. Ive always wanted a smaller classic style boat with flybridge and wanted it to have a nice outboard hanging off the back , BUT settled on the trojan and will figure out the whole inboard way of life. I cant wait to drive this thing. like someone else has stated we have the same water issues here with depth/rocks. this flybridge will make nerves alot calmer coming into some nice hotspots. river here can go from 200ft to 2ft within 10yds. A depth finder is useless here once you get out of the shipping channel. Ive been lucky to have grown up around here and have learned sometimes by expensive mistake where and where not to go. actually watched this poor canadian run aground in a 32ft cruiser. We drove up and this french speaking fella "guessing montreal" looks over at us and screams in that accent WHAT THE F*CK DID I JUST HIT!!!!!!! that paticular place is low enough in late summer to walk knee deep on and see metals parts and boulders like washing machines with metal scrape along them .sorry for highjacking the site I got carried away
yea we hijacked the crap out of this one, but michael, the pics and understanding is great, thats a neat trip, for me down hear, the only reason you need to be that high up is to #1 show off. #2 um show off or # 3 cobia fish. i maybe wrong as im sure i will be told, but as i go thro the inlets and my regular fishing spots, i see a lot of people way up high and alot of depth on my my screen. i thinks its just a waste here. If i had a big boat that already had it, then sure i would be that guy, not that they are bad at all. im just saying we dont have shallow water issues here, we are a top 5 import port, our boats run from the cargos LOL, its personal status around va beach period point blank, i just want to be able to feel safe in the ocean.

You would be surprise how much more you can see from a fly bridge . Thats why my lower helm has only been used once.
Some people love them others hate them or have no use for them . Life would be boring if we all liked the same things .

Nice pics Ready. Thats a baby bear though. The ones that are troublesome are thrice that size.
All I see there is half a freezer load and a small rug. Could be trouble for folks tent camping who stashed a Snickers bar in there with them for a midnight snack though.
As far as F/B's on mid 20' ers go I could take 'em or leave 'em. I'll use the one on the 32 a lot I suppose, but you aren't gonna catch me up there when its 30 degrees out and spitting snow. Thats what the salon station is for. Cut on the heat, whack a roast in the galley range, and see if you can score some salmon for the freezer. If you have satelite TV you can watch Sunday football or MBL playoffs while you are at it too.
I still say if the OP wanted something like what Jeff has he'd have to be sure it wasn't goong to add too much weight up too high. The light plastic homeskewl jobbie might be a better option.

Jeff you mention reasons for the flybridge was to show off? you can bet your ass when I get this thing running and cleaned up the first thing I'm going to do is climb "upstairs" lol someones pet peeve word for the flybridge and goto the hotspot sandbar on our river and pull up with my captains hat on blasting the helllll outa my horns and when they turn to look I'm going to ask over the pa system if anyone has any grey poupon!!!! then I'll direct the ones closest to my vessel to set my anchor. while the wife Buffy pops the cork on the wine bottle. I have issues dont I ?
