I want to say I have seen the same kit go in a car. Maybe there are differences.

Roger that. Must be just generic packaging but I think the part numbers are the same anyway.

Yes I think it is generic packaging. I also checked the catalog and it is a different number for a marine 318. I also tried the epoxy filled coil. It has a very strong looking spark.

I got mine at Napa. Or you can get them from http://www.centuryperformance.com Works real good, I still have ballast resistors.

Torcan,

I installed the Sierra Marine "Igniter" electronic conversion kit in mine 7 years ago and the engine has been very happy ever since. Same distributor as yours, it involved witching out the plate in the dist, running an extra wire to the coil then resetting the timing.

I would highly recommend doing this no matter what brand of kit you choose. It keeps the performance of the engine more consistent and improves reliability.

Hope this helps.

As was already stated, don't bother if your distributor is worn out. That means its time to replace/rebuild the distributor, and breakerless or not isn't going to change the need for a rebuild/replace in that situation.

Mallory makes some nice breakerless distributors for upgrade in your application (228 Merc). They are spendy though, and you are looking at 800-1000 dollars to make the switch if you have twins.

Single screw Commissionpoint :)

Thanks for all the suggestions,

Going to go ahead with suggestions and change out the distributor.
Not sure yet which I will go ahead with though, but..... I would like to put the "Best" in her. So I will also look at the suggestion from Commissionpoint.

Also, I am going to take the shrink wrap off today Friday April 6, and paint the bottom of her with Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote Black.
Will post up some pics when I get a chance to show my progress off :)

It's a good choice Torcan, you'll be happy you went that route; takes the worry of current distributor condition out of the picture. Mallory YLM series is a good distributor.

Century Performance is across the street from Mallory & their largest distributor. They can get you exact copies if you have Mallory's. http://www.centuryperformance.com

Nice job with the bottom paint. I noticed that your F25 only has one exhaust, which surprised me since my F26 has two. Is this a common difference between the F25 and F26?
