As far as the trans goes I don't under stand why you and others think its bad . You say its stuck in forward ? Are you sure its not just free wheeling in neutral due to no load ? Normally when you are stuck in forward , the engine will shut down when put in reverse ( locks the trans ).
when the shafts spins in neutral can you stop it with pressure on the out put shaft ? ( push a 2x4 carefully against it ) if you can its just some clutch drag , as the prop shaft is not spinning you have no load .
Your V-Dive maybe your only issue . I just don't believe both would fail at the same time. Not saying it can't happen but its a slim chance .
Not trying to argue just trying to save you from doing unneeded repairs

I would (actually do)agree with you, however he says his pal who works for sea ray has looked at it and confirmed tranny, as I am not there I have to go with what his trusted tech says
also the forward and straight to reverse is usually burnt/warped plates( or was in my case last week), but sometimes just swapping out the tranny fluid can fix it.
if you take your transmission linkage off and start the engine, with your hand VERY SLOWLY move the shifter towards neutral you will find a VERY small range where the shaft will stop spinning, also it does goe into reverse though?
maybe I should get the pics of my plates that are still on the bench at work for show and tell here...

contact walter gear directly. they have info on every walter v-drive produced. all you need is your v-drives serial number. no two parts are the same, hence, the need for the serial number. you might even include your hull ID number. they have a great tech support system. when dad needed a part for the v-drive on bubala 3 before it sold in 2007, he phoned walter, gave them the serial number and they had not only his info as the original owner but the day the v-drive was installed at the trojan plant in canada. here is a link to their website....

Been working long hours this week. Everybody wants there boat for the holiday weekend coming up. I also have the same questions. he seems to think thats what it is. After looking at the exploded view of the v drive I am thinking, it might have sheared thr key to the input shaft on the vdrive. What bothers me is there no signs of metal in the gear box. If it did strip out the splines it should have put metal fillings in the gear oil. He goes along with that. Which if for some reason there is no neutral with the prop spinning going from forward to reverse and vice versa, it could highly be possible to shear the key in the keyway and prevent the gears from turning. I haven't had the time to go to the boat and get the numbers off the drive. Will do today and call Walters Monday. I thank all of you for your information on this problem. I can repair most outboards and i/o's but this is out of my specialty for sure. Looks like that might change here in a bit.
