most important

determine the CAUSE of the failure

otherwise, simply changing parts invites a repeat

Tomorrow, when I take it out of the water I will take a picture and post it here. I dont have an underwater camera so I don't have a picture right now. But for right now, The best way i can describe the rupture is imagine going to shaft right in between your prop and you cutlass bearing, and taking a grinder and cutting half of it. And then barnacle build up in the crack and spread the crack even more and after use, it obviously broke. Standby for pictures tomorrow morning. Also I am getting the prop shaft installed by good trusting transmission mechanic. I dont trust myself doing the alignment for the shaft... I rather have an expert do it.

So Here are the pictures of the shaft tip was corroded by electrolysis in the water. We had put a zinc in the shaft about six months ago but for some reason its not there.

And up close, Clearly corroded.

I checked out the other zincs to see how they are doing, and they are ok for six months, So I guess the shaft zinc must have fallen out, and not eating out. Please tell me if this is not a normal state of zinc for 6 months.

I would say thats from a long time with out zincs , this took years to Happen . I showed the photo to a re power expert , he said "Years of Neglect " most likely it started long before you got the boat .

Leo, the best spot to mount that shaft anode is about half inch away from the strut.
