Years ago I started using an Infrared Temp Gun whenever I repacked a shaft. It is a great tool to have around a boat.
I have also found that with this setup that Trojan uses with the hose attached, it keeps the fitting cooler than one without.
I still love the GFO packing. I have no drips at all on any of the boats that I have installed it on and the fitting has never had a temp higher than 120 degrees.

i use temp guns for my booth at work, but if you are using packing, arnt you suppose to have a drip ?
