The ethanol based is not recommended for use in engines as it dries out rubber and causes corrosion.
I would love to be able to leave the boat in that water year round. I envy those of you that can.
The glycol is what seems to make the rubber swell. If you use propylene glycol (non-tox anti-freeze) to winterize your engine every winter, and do not remove your impellers over the winter, next time you replace your raw water impellers, put them side by side with the new ones. If they are several years old, they will be larger, and you'll think the new ones are the wrong ones! The impellers are more forgiving of this than the bellows in fresh water system pumps seem to be.
