I`m more in agreement with half shaft diameter. The closer it`s supported to the prop the better. Lot`s of stress there and I would prefer there be no room for wobble.

Thanks Guys. The Mechanic called me today to tell me the shafts were to long and needed to be cut down. Of course this is after I emailed him some of your comments and the documents. There pulling the shafts as I type are being taking to a well known machine shop who works specifically on marine drive systems

Good to hear. I want you to know that I spit shined those shafts around the strut in 20 degree weather with my fingers so you would be sure to get a good look.
What would concern me most in your situation wouldn't be if you had everythiung balanced and shimmed nicely, its if something goes out of balance that the increased distance from the strut would really start to come into play. In the worst of cases I have no problem envisioning the strut starting to pull through. Good job spotting the problem and getting it sorted.

Thanks again This forum has helped me several times. Not to many Trojan owner here in Washington. The shop that is doing all my work is one of the largest and well respected shops around I was a bit surprised I had to bring this to there attention. I think there bid to do the repower may have been a bit low. Its now 5 weeks into what they told me was a 2 week job. But that might be my fault because I told them to take there time that I didn't want a rush job.
