here is another example of whats going on, I stripped this area down as well, you can see some of the holes to the top left by the wall outlet and to the right as well, there was marine vinyl on this area, installed so badly that it actually looks better this way,,,lol
anyway I plan on addressing all of these areas, I like the idea of possibly adding a nice piece of teak on that shelf by the portholes, and directly below it creating like a small shelf area, not sure yet
I cant wait to show the "after" pics,,,
this is such a roomy cabin that its a shame someone didnt take care of it.but its only cosmetic at this point , so Im hoping it will turn out well.

I have started a 'soft deck' repair from underneath and I am ending up doing this also to my F36. Whole v-berth and dinette re-do. Believe me I feel your pain! At least its keeping me off the street corners!

here are some updated pics of the progress, I filled in a few holes that where previously used for a radio and who knows what else, in the priming stage at the moment I will post the finished cabin once done, still n ot sure what I will be covering it with
I vote for fabric attached with a spray on adhesive that will allow you to smooth out the creases and stretch it out with no ripples or folds.
no contact cement !
Upu could take a thin strip of fabric and fold it over a small plastic line (hemcord) to make a custom edging that would fit nicely along the corners and provide a seamless, professional factory look.

I may go with the fabric, but still havent made up my mind, if I do use fabric I will hire someone to install it, as I know my limitations,
I want it installed correctly
Teak veneer is out of th question, its not that type of boat,
my other choice is paint only, or some type of vinyl covering, RWS, I know your vote is for fabric,,lol, Im not sold on that, but I will look at yours ,
I do like the idea of a quick wipe down, and utilitarian look, but this is all preference.
Ill keep you posted,,

Im using Kilz Oil based primer,
I decided to go with an orange peel covering, that I sprayed on with my pattern gun, chosing a very light , not to bumpy covering,
came out very nice,
the final finish will be top side marine paint from Rustoleum which is one of my favorite coatings,, white and almond contrasting colors,
this way you are in for a current low cost, clean and nie complete job
PLUS
you still have the option an anytime to upgrade to a different product on one or more surfaces.

that means alot ,, especially from you, I get the impression your a perfectionist. I kind of am in my own way, and I wish I had unlimited funds to do it like Trojan did in 1983, This way at the very least, it came out conservative and clean. The finish looks like a textured piece of formica, hard durable and clean. Water will bead off, in the event of a leak and most important it can be altered as you stated at any time. Im just happy I was able to body work the holes that were there, the PO went hole crazy,,,,and you would never know they were there. This boat is solid but the PO was a bit of a McGiver and just slapped stuff on there. Im currently messing with a couple of pieces of hardwood to put on that shelf under the portholes , just trying to figure a neutral color to go with the wall work. I love things to be original , and its not out of the question for me to seek out a way to motorize those doors,, I really dig that idea. Im dying to see yours,,,
Im happy I can use the boat while Im cleaning her up, she runs amazing, but thats what Im good at, the engine stuff.
I have these 454's purring like kittens.

Im on marathon boat work lately,,lol and loving every minute of it. To me its not work, I zone out and watch tv in the boat as I work,,,lol.
