Was not taking a shot at you at all. I was being serious. You do fantastic work and we all like to see the progress. Also, I figure after you get it done, I can just re-read your posts to convert our F36 to Diesel....

I think my wife is coming around to the idea of buying the 36.. reluctantly, but she is ocming around.

I listed the 32 and have had a pretty amazing response so far, no cash yet but a lot of interest.

It looks as if the 32 will sell here pretty soon, I know, never talk about the sale before the cash is in the bank, but, wow, what a response.

I have an appointment to do a preliminary survey on the 36, the old guy seems to like me and asked me to spend as much time as I want, he even offered for me to stay! ( I'm sure there would be a million sea stories with that!)

all in all, I may have a deal by the end of the weekend, on both.

I plan to do the engine(s) survey and a foredeck sounding friday, if he can produce some sort of proof of the rebuilds, I'll preceed with an offer and then a formal sea trial, haul and surveys.

My friend who is owns a boat repair- maintenance - captain service told me to not be scared away from core damage if the price is right, he has repaired hundreds and says that while its a messy and time consuming project, its rather easy and not really that costly doing the repair ourselves, we'll see (he helped me with the repower project)

I know the guys that survey for a living we must rely, but from what I have gathered by the group of members here, I think most here of know more about what to look on these old trojans for than a general surveyor.

If it passes my test and my acceptable flaws, which there will be, I'll pass her over to the professionals.

I have a solution . . . keep both boats!

I looked at the F-36 again today, I spent a couple of hours on the boat and I have tentatively decided to not proceed, here is why

Major:

Fuel tanks are rotten, one has been emptied and removed from the fuel line plumbing, it's still in (aft) the boat and you can see the rust hole at the rear support, the other three are ticking time bombs.

Through hulls, original and all backing plates are wet or gone

Water tanks looked questionable

Other

Head, Lectra San, no holding tank and I couldnt get it to work, we cant use this type of head in SD anyways, so it would be a complete replacment

I couldnt get any electronics to work, the VHF came on, but there was no display on the screen

Generator cranked but would not start, the mounting base was a big hairy pile of corrosion

The foredeck at the pulpit was soft, from the anchor locker you could see the raw balsa core and it was soaking wet

Surprisingly, the rest of the deck looked and sounded pretty good, I used a hard rubber mallet and tapped the entire foredeck and side walkways and it all had a hard "solid" sound, where as the very foreward deck at the pulpit had a drum like thud..sorry crappy discription

I moved this to "other" because I spoke to my friend who said if its in this area, it is a faily easy fix and easier to blend the deck seam , plus there seemed to be pretty good access to the area from below.

Stingers looked good, I had close to full access and couldnt find any rot, visible or by sounding,
Fridge & Icemaker work

Engines start instantly and run great, however, the reubuild claim is quesitonable

I still love the layout, and it is a much more substantial boat than the 32

I think I can buy for 3 to 5 grand.... I know I know, but I am pretty capable of doing repairs, it's now a matter of if I want too, or just enjoy what I have already done for while

What do you think another 15K on top of the 3-5K to make it right?

tough call indeed, I think I am leaning towards staying put right now, I pulled the ad for the 32 yesterday and canceled two appointments to view th boat today, I think I could have easily sold the boat for more than enough to cover the initial costs of the 36, however, with what I could see, there must be more where you can't. plus. I get excited at the thought of the project and what that ol' girl could be, kind of a disease I think, but then reality sets in.

The owner could not or will not produce any documents to prove his claim of the engine rebuilds, if he had, I probably would move ahead this , but thats a big issue for me as I do not want to do another repower. outside of fuel tanks and thru hulls, the rest can be done in increments.
