My motors have duel remote oil filters. They are mounted high on the back of the engine. The machinist doesn't like this setup much....just curious, anybody else have duel remote oil filters??....thanks.........John

That's exactly what he said....and the pressure drop is about 5psi according to him.......I don't know if this is a standard setup or some kinda one off deal..............hence the inquiry..........John

These pics are best I can do until I get aboard. You can see the yellow filter in the pic of motor hanging, other pic is a top view you can sorta see the filter setup on the rear of motor.....don't know what rpm you lose 5psi, I assume it is at idle when pressure is lowest...............John

I've seen them on big blocks used in heavy duty trucks in the Navy. But I see no need in your boat, and a 5 psi drop on a broke in Chevy could mean only 5psi of pressure running thur the engine at 1000 rpm using 10 lbs for each 1000 rpm and if you idle at 700 then you could be lower.

John,

Don't sweat that filter set up. I have a 2000 Marine Power 454 in my jet boat and it came factory with two small spin on filters mounted above the bellhousing. They work fine and oil pressure is not an issue.

And I'd have to drop one of them. I doubt his came with the set up from the factory, and the folks who made your 454 planned for the set up. For the best opinion ask the guy that has the cover oil failure warranties of your engine I'd that his over anyone's

Look at the oil flow thru the filters . I believe they run parallel not in series so you would have better flow and pressuer then 1 filter .

You are correct; that is the advantage of that set up.

While the boats on the hard getting the new engine, I decided to replace the 39 year old swim platform supports. They have been painted every time the hull has been and were looking pretty shabby......I used 1 1/2" square aluminum tubing, here are before and after pics......motor should be done and back to the marina early this week.....hope to splash the following week............John
