Paul,

I was originally going to paint the engines cummins gray, which are dark metallic gray, but then realized that is close to the old OMC color, but when I was intertaining the thought, I talked to our Cummins rep about getting a can of single part paint, and he told me the same as you, he said get the dark metallic gray Rustoleum, as thats what they use on the touch up stuff on engine installs and repairs. plus its literally alomost $100 cheaper, and it is good paint.

Just my 2cents worth I have had Fram oil filters take and back off and lose the oil! Also seen one where it collapsed internally and cut off the oil flow causing an engine to lock up. By the way job is looking great!

Mine are Cummins White , Cummins used 2 white and Rustoleum has a perfect match white and almond.

I've always used NAPA Gold oil filters, they're made by WIX. Quality filter .

I think that all of the marine cummins engines are an off white color, the non highway engines are a really nice dark gun metal metallic gray, which is what I thought I wanted.
anyways,
I was looking through some parts catalogs and as far as poweder coating,
water circulation pumps, manifolds and risers etc are now coming standard with a powder coat finish.

A friend of mine just had some motorcycle parts coated by a company called "jet hot". They are reasonably local and I stopped in with him. It was a really cool place they have done mostly things for drag cars and show hot rods but I could definitely see an application for marine parts. It seems to be a coating process that is permanent and lifetime guarantee regardless of temp. I did not see a marine disclaimer.

Since the boat will never be able to plane again anyway - you might as well put on some very large pitch props an get great idling mileage out of them!

A pair of 20x24 or larger props at 2:1 would get you great fuel mileage at low rpm ...

And how will 20" props fit under a F32 ? I thought 17" was as big as you could go ?

Thought it was an F36.

17's give proper clearance for full speed (15%), but with this aplication you could use 18's, so make that 18x24!

Now, some will say this is overloading the engine, but in this case the boat will never be used wide open to plane anyway, so it will do fine.

How do you know that ? BTW I am betting it will plane some of these came with 188 hp ford 302s and thats only 23hp more per engine .

i bet it planes ...won't be a speed demon but 14 to 16 knots...and stay up down around 12...

Rossjo,

I plan to leave the props alone and run this way for a while to she how she performs. If I go to a larger prop, I will would have to run with one engine most of the time because she runs 6+ knots at idle. (no wake zones) I have changed to twin disc transmissions, but they are the same ratio.

I actually spent the day at the boat yesterday, it was overcast and cool but it was awfully nice to be on the boat and not working on it, well I gave her a good scrubbing, but I enjoy that.
