2800.00 for a floating dock this year..last yr it was 3000.00 for a fixed inside tee..

Here on the coast of Maine - I pay almost as much for storage in the winter than the dock fee in the summer. Plus, the State has imposed this new "Submerged Land Fee" - yep - a property tax of sorts based on the submerged mud under your boat. What a racket.

Here is the breakdown -

Slip - $80/ft for a 40' slip - $3200
Submerged Land Fee - $93
30A Electrical - $350
Winter Outside Storage - $6.25 a sq ft - $2962 (Yep - sq. ft. - Level ground in these parts on the ocean is tough to come by)
Total - $6605

The winter storage includes haul, pressure wash, jack stands and launch. I cover it myself - saving me $1350. One big tarp and a Kover Klamp system works just fine.

Because I am a year round customer though, they do throw in some discounts to me in the tune of $940 a year, so my total bill, runs $5,665 for a full year.

We can do what ever we want on our boats in the water or land, so I paint the bottom myself, as well as the normal spring reconditioning.

I'm finding more and more marinas up here asking for top dollar and really restricting what's allowed. No tarps, no bottom washing or sanding; sighting environmental reasons, some will not allow you to do your own work or bring in outside tradesmen etc etc. When I left the last marina, all in totalled close to $5000 a year, and that was 7 years ago. I like having my boat in my own back yard

Sounds like another government money grab. It sounds to me that they are taxing you for the land/bottom under the slip.

The submerged land fee is something the Democratic People's Republic of Maine's govenment has imposed on its citizens - to be sure and keep its status as one of the most taxed areas in the US. Paid yearly just like your property tax for land you can never see - even at low tide. What a deal!

A fee is a tax thats not called a tax .

Well I guess I'm the most extravagant boater on this forum. My main marina gets about 5850 for a the slip rental and 1500 for winter storage. The slip includes electricity, water, cable and wifi. I also have a slip at our yacht club for 1650.00 for the summer. My wife says as long as we can afford both we keep them and she's the admiral. The way I feel is as long as she's willing to work to pay for them, it's OK with me.

At Catawba Island on Lake Erie we pay $1850 for a 30' dock from April through October. Then about $1100 for inside cold winter storage. Marina does haul out, bottom cleaning and puts us back in come springtime. We do our own winterizing.

Well my dockage is free, of course it is sitting on my property on high ground. Thining about tring to get her to the lake when I get the engines in. Think 318s have the power to push her there over dry ground.

Just kidding I hope this spring to have the bill for a real covered dock on Texoma with the "Phoenix" floating.
